Travel Tips - Western South Dakota
Plan your outdoor activities
Rent in advance: Rentals for ATVs, kayaks, and paddleboards get booked up quick. You can rent in advance here at Black Hills Adventure Tours.
Get a free map on your phone: The Forest Service offers free maps of public land, lakes, trails, and jeep roads here (The map & GPS will work even when your phone does not have cell service!).
Avoid the crowds: Re-entry is allowed at many large attractions, so you can use your ticket for up to two days.
If you want to spend more time at an attraction, just ask if you can return later in the day when the crowd thins out.
There are hundreds of mom and pop attractions, activities, and shops throughout the entire Black Hills region. Most of them are only a block or two off the main road and out of sight! Consider turning on off the beaten path when waiting in traffic.
Mom and pops are not the only thing right around the corner. Massive abandoned mines, waterfalls, and wildlife are also found right off the main roads. (Remember they are not in sight, but there are right there. Do some exploring!)
